About the Event
Kantha embroidery originated in Bengal about 500 years ago, and was often used to sew together the remains of old clothing into new household items such as bed coverings. Kantha means 'rags'. Kantha embroidery predominently uses running stitch, and as such is an excellent method for a slow stitch creation, where the repetition of the stitches helps slow the mind and reduce anxiety. In this class, over two Thursday evenings, you will create a slow stitch lotus flower, a classic Kantha motif representing luck, creativity, wellness and beauty - ideally representing this class' participants :-)
The class is free if you have your own materials, with a £7.50 charge for a goody bag of fabric, needle and thread. If you opt for the materials, I will draw the pattern on the fabric in heat erasible pen. If you provide your own, I'll e-mail a line drawing of the pattern for you to transfer onto the fabric.
The first evening is Thursday 1st October at 7pm, and the second evening Thursday 8th October at 7pm.
